Manicured nails are beautiful, but without proper care in between them you may be throwing money away. Why not maintain your manicure as well as possible before your next visit? Here are some tips to maintaining your manicure.

First, treat your nails with care. Wear gloves when gardening or exposing your hands to water for extended periods of time. Do not use your nails as tools.

Keep your hands and nails well moisturized. It’s a good idea to maintain skin health as well as nail health. Use lotion on your hands to keep them hydrated and smooth. It’s a good idea to use lotions with an SPF of at least 15 if venturing out into the sun.

Likewise you should apply cuticle oil to keep the nails and cuticles moisturized. Cuticle oil not only keeps the nails and cuticles looking healthy, but it is a very important step in preventing hangnails and dry skin along the nails.

Be sure to file with care. Always use a fine grit file, which can range from 240-400 grit. Gently file in one direction. Never file in a back and forth or “sawing” motion. This type of filing causes the nails to fray and split.
